SmartCat — AI-driven company focused on hard data problems, seeking a Senior backend engineer to build and operate large event-driven systems under heavy load. In addition to the full backend scope (microservices, Kafka/Avro, Cassandra/ElasticSearch/PostgreSQL/Redis, observability with OpenTelemetry and Prometheus), the Senior is expected to own architecture decisions and mentor the team. Requires 5+ years of experience with Java and Spring Boot; familiarity with Kafka Streams, jOOQ, Flyway, R2DBC/Project Reactor, Resilience4j, Testcontainers, and pen-testing/red-team experience are meaningful pluses. Position is hybrid in Novi Sad, Serbia; offers a transparent L1–L10 career grid, flexible hours, knowledge budget, and a loyalty bonus (10% net after 3 years, 20% after 5 years).
